Venue
The workshop will be hosted by Novosibirsk State University in Akademgorodok, Novosibirsk, Russia.
Novosibirsk is the third-most populous city in Russia, which is located in the heart of Siberia at the spot where the Trans-Siberian Railway crosses the Siberian river Ob. After WWII Novosibirsk started to grow rapidly and became a thriving industrial city, a cultural and scientific hub and later also the biggest commercial and IT center of Asian Russia.
Despite of its exotic location, the city of Novosibirsk has a large scientific center called Akademgorodok, which is a suburb of this city.
Where is Akademgorodok located? First thing that comes to your mind is that it is in the forest. This is true, because more than one quarter of Academgorodok is a birch and pine tree forest. Academ is our miniature Narnia shielded from the noisy Berdsk highway and other city districts by the green wall. This is probably why we enjoy a uniquely peaceful atmosphere in Academgorodok so you fall in love with at the first sight. Akademgorodok’s idyllic proximity to nature is impressively combined with developed infrastructure. In this prestigious district with quite expensive real estate, one can find everything necessary for the active full life of any big city dweller: big shopping malls and smaller supermarkets, cafes and restaurants, drug stores and medical centers, hairdressers and beauty salons, fitness centers and swimming pools, places for beach-related rest and for winter entertainments.
Taking everything mentioned above into account, it is worth saying that first and foremost Akademgorodok is a scientific center. Such a research center was founded under the auspices of the Academy of Sciences around Novosibirsk State University, which constantly provides an inflow of young and energetic students into more than thirty research institutes. Akademgorodok is a place where science, technology and culture exist in a unique symbiose, and where a diverse society of young ambitious students, engineers, experienced researchers and veteran academicians fruitfully coexist in a serene Russian forest.
