Tomilov N.A.Sevyan Israelvich Vayntshtein - to the image of the scientistThe scientific activity of the outstanding Russian scientist Sevyan Izrailevich Vainshtein (1926 - 2008) is distinguished in the article. He conducted research on archeology, ethnography, Russian history, cultural studies, museology, religious studies and spent most of his life at the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Particular attention is paid to his work on ethnic history, including the ethnogenesis of Tuvinians, Khakas and other peoples of South Siberia, in which he used archaeological and ethnographic sources - materials of his own field ethnographic collections and archaeological excavations. Scientific works of S.I. Weinstein is a great contribution to ethnoarcheological knowledge. The article gives information about the scientific connections with him of the ethnographers of the city of Omsk.
