Description:

The RuSSIR school series started in 2007 and has developed into a renowned academic event with solid international participation.
The 8th Russian Summer School in Information Retrieval (RuSSIR 2014) will be held on August 18-22, 2014 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. The school is co-organized by the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Nizhny Novgorod (http://nnov.hse.ru/en/) and the Russian Information Retrieval Evaluation Seminar (ROMIP, http://romip.ru/en/).

SCHOOL PROGRAM

The main academic program of the school will feature six courses:

* Dmitry I. Ignatov (Higher School of Economics) -- Introduction to Formal Concept Analysis and Its Applications in Information Retrieval and Related Fields
* Sujatha Das G., Cornelia Caragea, Xiaoli Li, C. Lee Giles -- Document Analysis and Retrieval in Scientific Digital Libraries
* Paolo Rosso (Universitat Politecnica de Valencia) -- Author Profiling and Plagiarism Detection

A number of invited keynote lectures are planned. Additionally some of our sponsors' will present on how they apply information retrieval in their business. The Conference for Young Scientists in Information Retrieval will be co-organized with the school (http://bit.ly/russir2014conf).
Accepted full papers will be published in Spriger's Communications in Computer and Information Science series. The school is also famous for its versatile social programs.

PARTICIPATION IN THE SCHOOL

The target audience of the school is advanced graduate and PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, academic and industrial researchers, and developers. The school will be open to about 100 qualified, motivated and pre-selected candidates. The working language of the school is English. Participation is free of charge, a limited number of accommodation grants will be provided.

SCHOOL VENUE

Nizhny Novgorod is a beautiful historical city located about 400 km east of Moscow. The city lies on the confluence of the Volga and the Oka rivers. The population of the city is about 1.3 million people. The 16th century Kremlin is the central historic citadel of the city. Nizhny Novgorod will be one of the sites of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The most convenient way to reach Nizhny Novgorod from abroad is to arrive in Moscow and change to a high-speed train; Nizhny Novgorod airport has also direct connections to Moscow, Frankfurt, Prague, and Istanbul.
